The pets around us...

Good neighbor Rob ...

... decided one day he would have one of the kittens from the chinese shop down town and named her ...

Minkee !!!

Named after the shop although it should be mentioned that those chinese don't deserve any animals around them. Little Minkee was shocked and scared when she first came to this appartment building and we noticed she didn't have much safety in her life yet. Here Rob's holding her on his hand to show how small she is. She's about to meet new friends.

Playing ...

.. is what she does if not asleep or eating, and mostly she is playing with her food as well before eating it.

Smoke checks her out

One of the first pictures of them together. It took a few days for them to get used to each other, but then they became great friends. They're always finding each other at the start of the day and spend lots of time running after each other. Minkee is always attacking Smoke, trying to grab his nose or tail but always with her nails retracted.
Now they sleep together and even drink and eat from the same bowl.

Such a shame...

... we're moving to our new house in the east in a few days and those two won't see each other anymore. As if she knows she spends all the time she can at our house and only goes back to Rob's appartment in the evening when it gets too cold to leave the frontdoor open.

So take another look...

.. before saying goodbye. We'll miss her forever.

Beau Pellikaan

The spitting image of Holy Smoke, here's his brother Beau, living with the Pellikaan family in Iepenburg near The Hague. The same colors, the same smile. This was the feller that lived half a block away from us as a puppy. A hollow-eyed photographer had taken him from the nest and neglected him almost right from the start. So he was crying from behind the closed front door and there was nothing we could do.
One day he ran away and found a place in the animal shelter. The Pellikaan's found him there and made sure he started his life over, being a dog like he is supposed to be.

My Friend James

".. came to visit September 10. His mama brought him over from The Hague by car and they stayed a day and a night. We didn't see much of them during the night but we had a gaz during the day. This picture was taken in the morning before they left. My mom told me to sit nicely to shoot this picture .. it took me a while before I grasped it was picture-time again."

About James

He has his own Animal page right under this LINK. Pay him a visit and read his story as written by Hanny Marks, his human mother.

Loesje into our life

It came to our attention that quite nearby a neglected litter of cats tried to survive on a horsefarm. This little one - she didn't have a name yet - was the most unfortunate one. Her eyes where dripping of puss and needed immediate care. As a result she could not feed properly and was more of a skeleton than a cat. It took over a week for her to start recovering, but now she is growing rapidly, has bright eyes, purs day and night and follows everyone of us through the house as much as she can. Holy Smoke just made a new friend in life.
