The pets around us...

It has been a warm but stormy winter sofar. We had half an inch of snow just before Christmas, hardly any rain in these past months, and winds in February has never before been so violent. This past week trees were blown over, blown into houses, and small house were moved or crushed. Strange, even when you are used to living so close to the coast.

But we made the best of it. Smoke enjoys being outside in any weather, and his friends feel likewise about it. In the middle of February we went to the "Forest Of The Gay People" - a must when visiting The Hague ! On these pictures you'll see we were so lucky to have enough pale winter sunlight to forget about the storm winds. We had windspeeds up to 300 miles per hour! Ofcourse, we managed to stay inside the house on those moments, and our house still stands.

The top pictures show our new friend, a two year old female "Cana Corsa". We haven't sniffed out her name yet, but we dance with her every sunday so it will be only a matter of time before she gives us her name.

The bottom two pictures show Holy Smoke as he looked up from sniffing around in the bushes as I pass by with my camera. He just stands there being happy, on almost the highest point in the dunes.

Below is a rare moment of rest on the lang weekend walks with the neighbor's dog Pipo and Sientje. Always when I sit down and have a sigaret, they will lay down too. It takes only a few minutes before they do that. In this case I had found a deeper place in the ground and they initially looked if they would fit in as well. When they saw they couldn't, they layed down a few yards away from my hole in the ground and pretended not to watch me...

May 2002

Mothersday in the forest, sorry mother isn't there but she's got things to do.

So it's just Holy Smoke and his neighborhood friends Wibo a.k.a. Pipo, and Sientje a.k.a. Ciney. A gray day in May, cloudy, still a nice atmosphere. And ofcourse the forest to ourselves because on days like these you won't find many other people outside. Most of them are probably sleeping in front of the TV.

My favorite here is the bottom picture, called WiboTree.

Toot

Wally sent us this beautiful picture of Toot, sitting in the window. When this picture arrived by email I called Vera in the office (bedroom) to see it, and ofcourse Holy Smoke followed. He immediately recognized the image on the screen as a beautiful animal - probably knowing it was a cat - and took a good look for at least six seconds. Then he smiled. That is enough, dear Toot, to become part of this album.

Regular Guests

They're on the couch at our place three to four times a week and sometimes even more. Ciney ("Sientje") and her big brother Pipo are clearly waiting for doggie candy here, look at those pointy ears. They're still very welcome guests and have learned to behave as such in time.

A new kid on the block

We saw him around a number of times this year, Wolfje - in English you could say "Wolfy". He's about two years old now and whenever Holy Smoke meets him in the nearby park they have a nice way of playing and running together.
Floor (the misses) and her daughter went on holiday this August and Wolfy spends his days at three different places, his own house when a young lady stays there, a place in Zealand (this weekend for example) and a few days with Holy Smoke in our appartment. He hasn't learned how to share food yet...

"Sientje" is pretty ill...

... Consequently (see above) Wolfje bit Ciney in her face and she grew an abscess there. It was barely noticable but one day she couldn't stand to be touched there and she growled at Vera. And Vera investigated, discovering the inflamed wound. Waiting for help to arrive (the friendly vet is around the corner here) Sientje was tucked in a blanket and suffered in silence. Luckely the whole matter was cured with a shot of anti-biotic.
In the bushes

It's a hot and humid month of August and Wolfje spends some of his holidays with Holy Smoke. Here they're on their morning walk and have just finished running around the old oak tree. Then they rest in the cool bushes.
